Job Description Summary
Are you ready to embark on an engineering journey with practical experience at a global energy leader? The STEPS
(Student Technology & Engineering Program Switzerland) at GE Vernova Gas Power Engineering offers a unique opportunity
to gain real-world experience, learn hands-on, and collaborate with industry experts shaping the future of energy.
Unlike traditional internships, this comprehensive program provides exposure to various engineering disciplines and
insights into different fields. You will also have the chance to visit GE Vernova sites in Switzerland and France,
witnessing innovation firsthand through facility tours and real-world applications. Enhance your professional network
by connecting with GE Vernova leaders, engineers, and fellow interns, and participate in workshops, technical training,
and professional development sessions designed to prepare you for future career opportunities. If you are passionate
about engineering, sustainability, and innovation, this internship is your opportunity to acquire the skills and
experience that will set you apart in the field.
Join us and contribute to the future of energy!
Job Description
The internship consists of performing simulations for the development of a supercritical Once Through boiler (HRSG –
Heat Recovery Steam Generator). Heavy-duty once-through boilers are high-efficiency steam generators that operate
without a drum, pushing water through the system in a single pass to produce steam. They are ideal for high-pressure,
high-temperature applications like power generation or industrial processing due to their rapid startup capability and
compact design.
The target of the internship will be to check various risk scenarios such as flow instabilities, plant control
challenges or equipment lifetime implications to be mitigated. The intern will be part of the Plant Simulation team and
as such getting integrated into the project team working on this development. Through regular team meetings the
progress will be monitored and simulation needs adjusted.
Simulation work:
- Perform special studies to assess the feasibility of plant control features
- Apply dynamic calculation software and provide simulation of the complete cycle or an isolated system in order to
mitigate the risk of operating problems
- Develop new Python and SCL scripts
- Develop and assess new control concepts at plant or system level.
Desired experience:
- Enhanced knowledge in the field of Thermo-/Fluiddynamics or Automation
- Knowledge of dynamic calculation equipment and control concepts
- Detailed know-how in thermodynamics, general knowledge of thermal power plants is an advantage
- IT skills and experience in programming (Python, JS, SCL)
- Good written and spoken English
What do you get/deliver:
The intern will learn about complex Plant simulations, SLC programming of model generation, operability simulation and
thermodynamic model tuning. As an outcome of this internship, recommendations about plant control concept will be give.
A final report including the details of simulations performed and the results and the thereof derived recommendations
will be provided.
Additional Information
Relocation Assistance Provided: Yes
