Professur für Public Management*
The Department of Management, Technology and Economics (D-MTEC, www.mtec.ethz.ch) at ETH Zurich invites applications
for the above-mentioned position.
The public sector is grappling with increasingly complex societal challenges, underscoring the urgent need to
transform public organisations through digital innovation, data-driven decision-making, and the creation of
forward-looking public services. In response, the Professorship in Public Management is committed to advancing the
theoretical foundations and pioneering practices that strengthen governance, enhance organisational performance, and
promote accountability across public, governmental, and nonprofit sectors.
The successful candidate is an internationally recognised scholar with an outstanding publication record in (Public)
Management and demonstrated expertise across a broad range of topics, including organisation and management theory,
public policy analysis, organisational behaviour, strategic management, information systems, public finance, and
leadership in public and nonprofit institutions. A strong interest in emerging areas – such as how to transform public
organisations through digital technology, advance evidence-based decision-making, introduce and apply artificial
intelligence (AI), design innovative public service, and policy-based learning – is essential. Candidates should
demonstrate the ability to contribute to public management at both national and international levels.
The professorship is expected to contribute to innovative teaching activities for a diverse student body at the
undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as in continuing and executive education. At ETH Zurich, undergraduate level
courses are generally taught in German or English, and graduate level courses are taught in English. A strong interest
in bridging scientific research and practice, as well as in interdisciplinary collaboration in research and teaching
with other departments and multi-disciplinary centers and networks is expected.
ETH Zurich is an equal opportunity and family-friendly employer, values diversity, and is responsive to the needs of
dual-career couples.
