EPFL, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, is one of the most dynamic university campuses in Europe
and ranks among the top 20 universities worldwide. The EPFL employs more than 6,500 people supporting the three main
missions of the institutions: education, research and innovation. The EPFL campus offers an exceptional working
environment at the heart of a community of more than 18,500 people, including over 14,000 students and 4,000
researchers from more than 120 different countries.
Postdoc on protein evolution
Mission
Our group mainly focuses on modeling evolution and extracting information from evolutionary data, from molecules to
microbial populations. We develop approaches based on mathematical and physics-based modeling, statistical inference
and machine learning (especially protein language models). Possible projects include studying the evolution of
protein-protein interactions, and inferring evolutionary constraints from sequence data, both in general and in
specific cases motivated by experimental collaborations. Postdocs are given substantial intellectual freedom to develop
their own research directions.
We are an interdisciplinary group and we welcome people with diverse backgrounds and trainings. For instance, people
with training in physics, applied mathematics, computer science, biophysics, computational biology or life sciences
engineering can all fit in the Laboratory.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Working and collaborating on research projects;
- Analysis, communication and publication of results;
- Participating in student supervision, typically for BSc/MSc projects
Profile
- Recent PhD, or PhD nearing completion, in a relevant discipline.
We offer
- A stimulating and international working environment
- Excellent working conditions and competitive salaries (see
https://www.epfl.ch/campus/services/human-resources/en/basic-starting-salary-of-doctoral-assistants-and-postdocs/)
