Postdoc in Computational Linguistics 90 - 100 %

Come work with me! I am inviting applications for a postdoc-position in the field of Computational/Historical/English
Linguistics as part of a Swiss National Science Fund (SNSF)-funded project on 'Who did What to Whom: Strategies of
Argument Disambiguation in Early English' (WWW-SArDEEn; PI: Dr. Eva Zehentner) at the English Department of the
University of Zurich. The position is initially for 1 year, with the possibility of extension to up to 4 years in total
(max. 48 months) at 90-100%, to start on 01 September 2025 or upon agreement.
The position is open to candidates with an outstanding completed doctorate who are aiming for further experience in a
dedicated research team (with the option of pursuing their habilitation, the formal qualification for a professorship
in the Swiss academic system).

Your responsibilities
The advertised position is part of an SNSF-project which revisits the presumed shift from synthetic to analytic means
of expression in the history of English. To investigate this, the project draws on recent methodological advances
concerning (a) the statistical modelling of language change, and (b) the application of LLMs/AI-based tools to
historical data. Your particular focus will be on exploring and developing ways to tackle these methodological tasks.
You will be working closely with the PI and a PhD, and will be able to develop your own research profile within the

Your profile
I am looking for motivated Early Career Researchers who fit the following profile:
- PhD in computational linguistics or a related field
- strong background in NLP/ machine learning/ working with large language models and/or statistical, computational
modelling
- experience with and interest in historical (English) linguistics and historical data/low-resource languages is a plus
- experience with publication activities and organisation of academic workshops/ conferences as well as academic
networking
- experience with and interest in working as part of a team, collaboration with other researchers
- proficiency in English
