We offer a PhD position on "In-situ characterization and Digital Modeling of Li-Ion Batteries" in the Materials and
Device Engineering (MaDE) group led by Prof. Vanessa Wood. Our group and research activities are interdisciplinary and
collaborative with a very motivated team from various backgrounds with a large knowledge base. We conduct research on
Li-Ion batteries ranging from material development, structural analysis with x-ray techniques, to digital modeling and
simulation. The group also performs research on optoelectronics that are based on nanoparticles, offering unique
opportunities to collaborate and to investigate the use of nanoparticles in Li-Ion batteries.
Project background
You will perform in-depth research on cutting-edge research of Li-Ion battery characterization and modeling.
Job description
- Development of beamline-specific measurement cells for in-situ tomography measurements
- Fabrication and characterizing of samples in the laboratory.
- Analysis and interpretation of beamline data
- Development structure-based multiphysics models to study (electro-)chemo-mechanical phenomena in Li-Ion batteries
You will have the opportunity to use and build upon extensive datasets, code, experience around tomographic
measurements of battery materials and components, image processing, and multiphysics simulation.
During their study, doctoral students are encouraged to pitch and develop research ideas based their findings, novel
publications, and emerging challenges in the field.
