The Biomaterials Engineering research group in the Department of Health Sciences and Technology of ETH Zurich is
seeking a Doctoral Student . Our lab develops advanced biomaterials and biomanufacturing systems for in vitro disease
modeling. We integrate biomaterials science, 3D bioprinting, and biomechanics to build functional 3D organoid systems
and reduce reliance on animal models in the spirit of 3Rs principle. The successful candidate will contribute to the
development of next-generation human musculoskeletal organoid models, with a focus on biomaterials design, engineering
and their applications in biofabrication and organoid culture systems. This position is embedded within a
multidisciplinary research team at ETH Zurich and offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of engineering and
biology.
Job description
- Design, synthesize and engineer biomaterials with customizable properties
- Evaluate and optimize physicochemical properties of biomaterial scaffolds for 3D organoid culture
- Support experimental validation, analysis, and documentation for organoid culture
Profile
- Master’s degree in biomedical engineering, chemistry, interdisciplinary sciences, or related fields
- Strong background in synthetic organic chemistry, materials synthesis and engineering
- Experience in microfabrication, hydrogel handling, or cell culture is a plus
- Highly motivated, creative, and able to work independently as well as in a collaborative team
- Excellent communication skills in English (spoken and written)
