R&D Intern in Thermal Modeling 80 - 100% (f/m/d)
Diesen Job teilen
Hitachi Energy Research, in close collaboration with business areas, is developing foundations for the next generation
of Power Grids products. Located in the proximity of Zurich, the research center employs approximately 60 scientists
from all over the world with cross-disciplinary expertise. In the Systems Integration and Physics Group we perform
cutting-edge research, and look at various aspects of making the power system stronger, smarter and greener. We focus
on the challenges and opportunities in enhancing grid flexibility and facilitating renewable energy proliferation. In
this context, we offer an internship position which provides the opportunity of working on real-world projects in an
international team of research scientists.
How you’ll make an impact
-
Contribution to the development of a MATLAB-based tool for fast design and optimization of magnetic components for
power-electronics applications
-
Development of a fast thermal model for this tool using a finite-element method with a very coarse mesh
-
This includes the formulation of quadratic elements, the assembly of the system matrix, and the solution
-
Optimization for computational speed
-
Thorough testing and verification of the MATLAB model using COMSOL Multiphysics
-
Documentation of the work in a technical report
-
Collaboration with R&D team and experts in magnetics and simulation
Your background
-
Degree program (official enrolment is essential) in Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Engineering, Computer Sciences,
Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Mathematics or a similar discipline (completion of at least six semesters)
-
Knowledge of MATLAB, COMSOL Multiphysics, and the finite-element method is a strong plus
-
Enthusiastic, self-motivated mindset and ability to work independently
-
Highly conscientious individual with keen sense of responsibility
-
