Center for Reproducible Science
Postdoctoral researcher in reproducible science (one year) 60 - 80 %
Start of employment June 2025 or upon agreement, temporary
The Center for Reproducible Science (CRS) at the University of Zurich (UZH) pursues the goal to improve the overall
reproducibility of scientific research. Now the CRS is to be extended into a new Center for Reproducible Science and
Research Synthesis and made permanent. The Center expands the scope of its research to further develop concepts and
methods to assemble, critically assess and integrate existing evidence. This includes methods to identify and remedy
gaps, biases and blind spots in existing research and research methodologies. The postdoctoral position, currently
financed for one year, is created to support the transformation of the Center, while maintaining and developing
long-standing activites of the CRS such as teaching and promoting reproducible research practices and meta-research.
Your responsibilities
The successful candidate will participate in research projects related to open and reproducible research practices and
to meta-research and research synthesis. Specific tasks will be adjusted to fit the successful candidate's expertise
and previous work. They may include:
- collect and re-use data from public research databases (OpenAlex, Cochrane, clinicaltrials.gov, etc.) to conduct
meta-research
- create accessible, easy-to-digest educational resources on open and reproducible research practices (cf. the CRS
'primers' and 'reproducibility notes'), potentially also in short-form online formats (video/audio)
- contribute to large-scale reproduction and replication initiatives
- conduct CRS 'lab pitches', i.e. workshops for research groups at UZH on techniques for computational reproducibility
and on reproducible statistical and computational methods
Your profile
Candidates need to have an excellent research and teaching record and a strong focus on techniques relevant for
reproducible and open science, such as experimental design, pre-registration, computational reproducibility, and open
research data. Active research on concepts of reproducibility is a plus. More specifically we require:
- A recent PhD degree in a quantitative subject with a clear methodological focus
- Excellent command of quantitative and computational methods
- Ability to critically assess research results
- Strong interest and expertise in reproducibility in different stages of empirical research
- Proven teaching record at university level
- Excellent knowledge of the R and/or Python environment for scientific computing and relevant extensions (R markdown,
knitr, shiny, quarto, jupyter notebooks, etc)
- Ability to work both independently and in a team
- Excellent knowledge of English and communication skills
Information on your application
Please submit your application (CV and cover letter) as one single PDF file.
