Post-doc/Researcher Position Urban Green Planning and Urban Ecology
Mission
We are offering an 80-100% post-doc/senior researcher position on Urban Green Planning and Urban Ecology at the
Laboratory for Landscape Development (LAND), ENAC, at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL) in Lausanne,
Switzerland.
LAND is an EPFL laboratory that focusses on research issues relating to the coordination and moderation of different
spatial demands on landscapes in terms of sustainable development. In addressing various questions of landscape change
and future development, we pursue a holistic understanding of landscape as an interplay of natural and anthropogenic
factors. Our work is characterised by inter- and transdisciplinary approaches and working at different scales and
planning levels. Currently there is a focus on the ecological contributions to the necessary transformation of our
cities.
The future postdoc/researcher will support us in developing innovative approaches to liveable, sustainable and
climate-resilient cities through green infrastructure and nature-based solutions, developing novel approaches to the
planning and design of green spaces and green infrastructure, including participatory approaches, and integrating these
into spatial planning.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Conducting original research in the field of landscape development with a focus on ecological aspects and on urban
areas
- Research in collaboration with the research team, the ENAC faculty, and potential stakeholder partners
- Teaching in the fields of urban ecology and landscape/green planning
- Contribute to broad lab activities and academic services
Profile
- Experience and sound knowledge in at least one of the following fields: urban ecology and related disciplines,
landscape and green space planning and design, qualitative or quantitative system modelling, interdisciplinary
approaches in landscape development
- Interest in and commitment to inter- and transdisciplinary research
- High level of performance based on independent conceptual and scientific work
- Excellent communication and moderation skills, including visualisation, creativity, organisational skills and
openness as well as intercultural competence
- Commitment to teaching and interacting with students
- Experience in writing proposals and teaching
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, knowledge of German and French is an advantage
