inspire AG is the leading Swiss competence centre for product innovation and advanced manufacturing.
As a strategic partner of ETH Zurich, our mission is to transfer knowledge and technology from research
to Swiss machine, electrical and metal industries. The research group Intelligent Production Systems at
inspire is based in Lugano, the southern part of Switzerland.
AI Research Engineer for Manufacturing
Our research group focuses on the development of AI algorithms for industrial applications. The main
scope of our activities is the optimization and automation of workflows and production systems. Within
this field, we are continuously developing and adopting various algorithms for multiple applications such
as automating quality control, detecting process deviations and finally predicting the resulting product
quality of the production systems.
Moreover, we are working towards technical Vision Language Models, where we are looking for a
solution oriented and highly motivated research engineer. Your competences coupled with a can-do
attitude enable you to resolve challenging problems with an industrial relevance.
The first main goal of your work will be to explore and develop algorithms to automatically process user
manuals or process videos and extract relevant information. Further research will focus on advanced
computer vision algorithms for defect detection. The research projects are usually part of a collaboration
with a manufacturing company and require a good understanding of AI algorithms and their effective
deployment.
Your Tasks
- Conduct research and development in the field of generative AI algorithms for manufacturing
- Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to transform research results into innovative solutions
- Develop high-quality code and build the basis for our industrial AI platform
- Design methods, tools, and infrastructure for the efficient and effective deployment
- Continuously follow the advancements and implement novel approaches
- Collaborate with industrial and academic partners
Required qualifications & experiences
- University degree or PhD in engineering with a focus on data science/AI
- Proficiency in Python and at least one further programming language such as C# or C++
- Proven track record of prototypes and/or research in the field of AI
- Experience with computer vision frameworks
- Experience with LLMs and Vision Language Models is a plus
- A good knowledge (written/oral) of English is mandatory. Knowledge of Italian, French and/or
German will be an additional advantage
