This position reports to
R&D Team Lead
Your role and responsibilities
In this role, you will play a key part in advancing ABB’s battery solutions through both theoretical and applied
research. You will combine experimental research with modeling the underlying physical phenomena and leveraging
state-of-the-art simulations. Utilizing data-driven modeling techniques, you will incorporate machine learning
approaches to enhance models with operational data for both stationary and mobility energy storage applications. As a
member of the Energy Storage Group at our ABB Research Center, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams both
within and outside the company. Together, we will translate ideas into proof-of-concept demonstrations, serving as the
foundation for next-generation energy storage products. Additionally, you will contribute to shaping the team research
roadmap and managing research projects. The work model for the role is: #hybrid You will be mainly accountable for: •
Develop physics-based and data-driven models that integrate field data for battery State-of-X estimation or digital
twins. • Conduct applied research in the area of battery technology. • Contribute to the design, planning, and
execution of experiments. • Lead research initiatives, contributing to publications and generating intellectual
property. • Collaborate closely with scientists and engineers from universities and global ABB divisions.
Qualifications for the role
- PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field. Experience in battery modeling and testing, with
exposure to machine learning and data analytics, is a plus.
- Practical experience in laboratory work, including experimental setups and advanced measurement techniques.
- Strong collaborative and solution-oriented mindset, with excellent written and spoken communication skills in
English. Willingness to learn German.
