Ein tolles Gefühl!» Hinter ihm thront der Prototyp der neuen Power-to-Gas-Anlage von AlphaSYNT, die hier intensiv getestet wird. «Für alle, die noch kommen», ergänzt CEO Andreas Aeschimann. Als Vater von drei Kindern ist es ihm besonders wichtig, Verantwortung für kommende Generationen zu übernehmen.\u003Cbr>Gegründet wurde AlphaSYNT im Jahr 2020. Schmidlin brachte seine Erfahrung aus dem IET Institut für Energietechnik der Fachhochschule OST ein, wo er am Aufbau und Betrieb der ersten Power-to-Methan-Demoanlage der Schweiz beteiligt war. Aeschimann arbeitete zuvor in einem Ingenieurbüro an Hochtemperaturanwendungen und in der Verbrennungsforschung. Kennengelernt haben sich die beiden zufällig in einer Kaffeepause – heute arbeiten sie eng mit dem PSI zusammen. «Lauter glückliche Fügungen führten zur heute marktfähigen Technologie», sagt Schmidlin.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Ch3>Katalysator für die Energiewende\u003C\u002Fh3>\n\u003Cp class=\"ps-2\">Die Power-to-Gas-Technologie kann überall dort eingesetzt werden, wo CO₂ anfällt und erneuerbarer Strom verfügbar ist – etwa in Abwasserreinigungsanlagen, Biogas- oder Holzvergaseranlagen, Kehrichtverbrennungsanlagen oder Zementwerken. Überschüssiger Solarstrom lässt sich so in Methan umwandeln und vom Sommer in den Winter speichern.\u003Cbr>Die Anlagen werden dadurch CO₂-neutral: Einerseits wird kaum zusätzliches CO₂ freigesetzt, sondern in erneuerbare Energieträger «upgecycelt». Andererseits können bestehende Infrastrukturen weitergenutzt werden – fossile Energieträger werden schrittweise ersetzt. Besonders dort, wo finanzielle Mittel begrenzt sind, eröffnet das neue Möglichkeiten. «In Entwicklungsländern ist es oft einfacher, erneuerbaren Kraftstoff anzubieten, als komplett neue Antriebssysteme einzuführen», erklärt Schmidlin. Zusätzlich kann die beim Prozess entstehende Wärme genutzt werden – direkt in der Anlage oder im Fernwärmenetz.\u003Cbr>&nbsp;\u003C\u002Fp>\u003Cblockquote>\u003Cp>Unsere Technologie funktioniert. Wir werden vielleicht nicht die Welt retten, aber ein wichtiges Puzzleteil dazu sein.\u003C\u002Fp>\u003C\u002Fblockquote>\u003Ch3>Versorgungssicherheit und politische Rahmenbedingungen\u003C\u002Fh3>\n\u003Cp class=\"ps-2\">Studien zeigen laut Aeschimann, dass das Biomassepotenzial der Schweiz theoretisch ausreichen würde, um den bisherigen Gasverbrauch zu decken. Power-to-Gas erhöht dieses Potenzial zusätzlich. Entscheidend bleibt jedoch die Verfügbarkeit von bezahlbarem erneuerbarem Strom.\u003Cbr>Der Krieg in der Ukraine hat die Diskussion beschleunigt. «Die Versorgungssicherheit wird neu bewertet, und die Investitionsbereitschaft steigt», sagt Schmidlin. Gleichzeitig scheuen viele Anlagenbetreiber das Risiko neuer Technologien. Förderinstrumente oder angepasste Rahmenbedingungen könnten hier helfen. Auch bei den Netznutzungsgebühren sehen die Gründer Handlungsbedarf, da Power-to-Gas-Anlagen zur Stabilisierung des Stromnetzes beitragen.\u003Cbr>Die Entwicklung geht weiter: Gemeinsam mit dem PSI und einem internationalen Konsortium realisiert AlphaSYNT eine EU-unterstützte Pilotanlage in Portugal. Dort wird aus holzartiger Biomasse verflüssigtes Methan für den Schwerlastverkehr hergestellt – ein weiterer Schritt vom CO₂ zur nutzbaren Energie.\u003Cbr>&nbsp;\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Ch3>CO\u003Csub>2\u003C\u002Fsub> zu Methangas - so funktioniert es\u003C\u002Fh3>\n\u003Cp class=\"ps-2\">AlphaSYNT nutzt erneuerbaren Strom aus Sonne, Wind und Wasser, um CO₂ oder CO-reiche Gase in synthetische Energieträger umzuwandeln. Dank der patentierten Wirbelschichttechnologie des PSI können verschiedene Abgasquellen effizient zu erneuerbaren SynFuels «upgegradet»
