ETH Zurich is a world-leading university dedicated to advancing science, engineering, and technology. The position is
embedded in the Computational Biology (CoBi) group headed by Prof Iber that leverages images to develop data-driven
models of biological processes . The team employs cutting-edge computational tools and imaging techniques to
investigate complex biological systems, translating image-derived insights into mechanistic models that enhance our
understanding of processes such as tissue dynamics, disease progression, and cellular behavior. The Department of
Biosystems Science and Engineering (D-BSSE) of ETH Zurich is located in Basel, a European hotspot for biomedical
research, in close proximity of the University of Basel, and the pharmaceutical and biotech industry.
Project background
We seek a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to develop and apply cutting-edge image analysis techniques. The
successful candidate will contribute to projects involving diverse imaging modalities, including lightsheet microscopy ,
CT imaging , and ultrasound imaging . A strong emphasis will be placed on leveraging modern tools like napari and
related Python- or AI-based frameworks to process, analyze, and visualize large-scale datasets.
Job description
- Develop and apply state-of-the-art algorithms for image segmentation, quantification, and visualization
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams working on biological, medical, and physical imaging applications
- Contribute to software development for reproducible and user-friendly image analysis workflows
- Write and publish high-impact research articles in peer-reviewed journals
- Present results at international conferences and within collaborative networks
Profile
The successful applicant must be self-motivated and enthusiastic to use cutting image processing algorithms and
software, and to develop novel algorithms that enable ambitious, cutting-edge research at the interphase of
developmental and computational biology.
- PhD in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field
