The doctoral program at the Institute of History and Theory of Architecture (gta), ETH Zurich, offers two fellowship
positions to start on 1 October 2025 .
Project background
This program focuses on the history and theory of architecture and urbanism in a wider context of cultural history,
including the history and theory of art, science and technology.
Job description
Conduct original doctoral research on an individually determined topic within the history and theory of architecture
and urbanism. The fellowship places no restriction on the geography or time period of the proposed research project.
The doctoral fellowships are funded for three years (100%, ETH Standard Rate) with the possibility of renewal for one
additional year.
Profile
We are seeking junior researchers with:
- a background in the history and theory of architecture and art or architects with research experience
- a university diploma or master’s degree in architecture, history of art, or related fields
- excellent research and writing skills
Furthermore, we aim to maintain and expand our diversity and thus, we encourage people from underrepresented groups to
apply. Applications are welcomed in German or English.

- Academic supervision and mentoring by members of our insitute, within a developed research framework (including
guidance towards specific methods, materials and bibliography)
